What Should We Know About Sphynxes?
Name of the breed: sphynx.
Weight: average from 2.5 to 5.5 kg.
Height in the sphynx: up to 35 cm.
Average life expectancy: 12-14 years.
Sphynxes look quite unusual. Their main feature is the absence of hair on the body. Although their bodies are sometimes covered with fluff and their body temperature is higher than other cats’.
Many people think that such cats are hypoallergenic because of their main feature but that is not true. Sphynxes can cause allergies as the human body reacts not only to animals’ fur but also to skin secretions, for example.
Sphynxes are genuinely attached to people and need a lot of attention, they do not like loneliness. Therefore, before buying it is worth thinking if you can spend enough time with your future pet.
Animals of this breed are sociable and affectionate. They feel great in the society of people, with pleasure follow their owner, spend a lot of time with him, and often nap next to him under the blanket. These cats are usually friendly to strangers too. Sphynxes aggression is very rare.
Sphynxes get along well with other cats and even can get along well with dogs. This kind of neighborliness is especially useful if the animals are left home without people for a long time. In some cases, adult cats may have conflicts, although these are rather exceptions.
Make sure that the animal is always warm and not overcooked; otherwise, it may catch a cold. If it is not warm in the apartment, you can put on special clothes for the sphynx.
These pets categorically should not be given spicy, salty, fat, and sweet food.
Such cats have a great appetite because of accelerated metabolism. So, they eat more than fluffy animals; but you don’t overfeed sphynxes: obesity is dangerous for their health.
Sphynxes require special care because of their skin – it is something similar to humans, for example, they can burn it. These bald cats sweat and their skin produces fat. They should therefore be bathed once or twice a week and regularly wiped with a soft, damp towel to remove any excess skin.
